Monument to merchant and camel unveiled in Blagoveshchensk
The monument "The Merchant and the Camel" appeared in Blagoveshchensk. He recalls the role of these animals in trade in the Amur region at the end of the XIX — beginning of the XX century. The composition was placed in the Merchant's Square, opposite the Amur Regional Museum of Local Lore.
The prototype of the monument was a historical photograph depicting a camel caravan at the Kunst and Albers store. Now there is a museum of local lore. The sculpture was created by artists from the Mitrofan Grekov Studio.
PriamurMedia news agency writes that during this period of history camels were quite common in the region. There were several hundred camels in the Amur region. They participated in the transportation of goods from neighboring regions, delivered products to the gold mines, and brought gold back.
The cost of the camels quickly paid off. It turned out that it was more profitable to keep them than horses. The camels turned out to be unpretentious and hardy.
Earlier it was reported that the Amur River embankment will be expanded in Blagoveshchensk. There will be two sports areas. So, the first site will be located in the Silver Mile area. The second sports ground will be built in the area of Teatralnaya Street. There is a roller skating area, beach volleyball and streetball courts, and outdoor exercise equipment. Attractions and non-standard retail outlets will be installed closer to the embankment, which were previously located on the territory of the city park and the OKC.
