The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union (EU) is preparing a package of economic support for Armenia in the amount of €50 million after Russia imposed restrictions on the import of a number of goods from the republic. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on June 4.

"Today I talked with the Prime Minister of [Armenia] Nikol Pashinyan on Russia's recent restrictions on Armenia. Europe firmly supports Armenia. We are preparing an EU support package. This includes immediate financial assistance in the amount of more than €50 million. And that's not all," von der Leyen said.

The head of the EC also clarified that Brussels will simplify the import of goods from Armenia, as well as "practically" support the most affected sectors of the country, including the flower industry.
