Russia needs to move away from the defensive model in relations with Western countries, the old world will not return. This was stated on June 4 by Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, speaking at the session "How to return to the trajectory of sustainable economic growth in the face of global uncertainty" at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

"We need to move away from the exclusively defensive model. In fact, by and large, we have already moved away from this. We need to move away more and more. The main point is not to wait for something old to come back," Oreshkin replied to the question.

Oreshkin also said that the economies of Western countries are in turmoil and fever, and this fever is partly being transferred to Russia, as well as to the whole world. According to him, what is happening in the Middle East is also feverish for the whole world, and this concerns Russia.

At the same time, Oreshkin noted, the growth is demonstrated by the countries of Africa, India and China. Russia now needs to take advantage of the opportunities that open up and carry out appropriate reforms in its country.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), noted on the sidelines of the SPIEF on June 3 that European countries had lost about €3 trillion as a result of abandoning Russian energy resources and were actually leading their economies to collapse. Against the background of the current situation, he stressed the importance of the participation of creative political forces and representatives of Europe in the forum.

"More than half of the world is our potential market"
Alexander Kalinin, President of Opora Russia, talks about how the conflict in Iran has affected exporters, why they want to deprive the false self—employed of their status, and how they can increase labor productivity.
