Two-time Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva did not use her position in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to defend the interests of Russian athletes, such behavior is cynical. This was announced on June 4 by State Duma deputy and two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov.

"It was her decision. She tells us how proud she was when the Russian flag was raised, but she did nothing to ensure that the International Olympic Committee returned the flag to us. Cynical, isn't it?" he said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Commenting on the athlete's activities in the IOC, Fetisov recalled that Isinbayeva had repeatedly spoken about her pride in the Russian flag and the achievements of the country. He noted that the athlete made her own choice and now lives with its consequences.

Fetisov also drew attention to the fact that many famous Russian athletes, despite the opportunity to live abroad, prefer to stay in Russia. As an example, he cited hockey players who return to their homeland after completing their careers.
