Fraudsters steal personal data of Russians under the pretext of extending a communication contract, replacing a medical policy or accruing social benefits. This was reported on June 4 in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"The range of pretexts used by hackers to obtain personal data is quite wide. This may include an extension of a communication contract, replacement of a medical policy, registration for the Unified State Exam or OGE, accrual of social benefits and compensations, parcel delivery, installation of an intercom system, and others," the press service told RIA Novosti.

The department also noted that attackers can stage a fraudulent attack to get a code from SMS for authorization in important services. For example, scammers disguised as employees of courier delivery services or marketplaces may offer to deliver the "ordered goods", and to confirm the date and place of delivery, ask them to dictate the code from the SMS.

The Russian Interior Ministry reported on May 31 that fraudsters use pseudo-official terms to create a sense of legitimacy and urgency among people. One of the most common formulations is "secure account". In the Russian banking system, there are no special accounts of the Central Bank or law enforcement agencies for transferring citizens' money.
