The State Duma proposed to introduce a 13th pension in Russia
Nikolai Kolomeitsev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, said on Thursday, June 4, that Russia needs to introduce a 13th pension to strengthen social support for citizens.
"The introduction of the 13th pension can be a good measure of social support for people who really deserve the best. The 13th pension may be especially important for those whose pension is the only or main source of income," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The parliamentarian noted that for senior citizens who do not have help from children or relatives, such a payment can become a critical financial safety cushion. According to him, the initiative will have a positive impact on macroeconomic indicators.
"It will also benefit the economy: pensioners will take all this money to convenience stores to buy food and other essential goods. There is another important aspect: this way people will feel the care of the state, which they really need," the deputy added.
Kolomeitsev stressed that the implementation of the idea will require additional budget expenditures, but the final effect will justify the costs.
Yulia Kovalenko, PhD in Economics, Deputy Head of the Higher School of Economics of Moscow Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, recalled on May 31 that in Russia, former military personnel and law enforcement officers can receive two pensions in June, provided they have 15 years of experience and accumulate at least 30 retirement points. If the conditions are met, the pensioner is entitled to a payment from both the Social Fund of the Russian Federation and the law enforcement agency.
