Britain is seeking Russia's strategic defeat through the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated on June 3 by Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin in an interview with Sky News.

"Great Britain and I are on opposite sides of the fence. The UK is doing everything to destroy us and inflict a strategic defeat on Russia," he said.

According to the ambassador, for this Britain provides Ukraine with financial assistance, imposes sanctions and puts pressure on Russia. The UK's approach is not only unfriendly, but also hostile, he said. Nevertheless, British sanctions have had an impact on Russian politics.

"We hardly notice their effect. Yes, there are sanctions, and there is an effect of these sanctions, a cumulative effect. But we are coping with them," the ambassador noted.

On May 26, the United Kingdom expanded the anti-Russian sanctions list by 18 positions. The restrictions include the Eurasian Savings Bank and the real estate company Diamant Estate. In addition, the sanctions affected companies from El Salvador and Georgia.

At the same time, the Russian Embassy in London said that the new restrictions on London were far-fetched and meaningless. The diplomatic mission noted that the UK's anti-Russian policy will not affect the course of the Russian Federation, which has successfully adapted to external pressure. At the same time, the consequences of sanctions will primarily affect British citizens, businesses and the reputation of the United Kingdom, the diplomats assured.
