Two Russians will play in the semi-finals of Roland Garros for the first time in 17 years.

Two Russian tennis players, Diana Schneider and Mirra Andreeva, will play in the semi—finals of the French Open (Rolland Garros), where their compatriots have not been able to get to in such numbers since 2009. For more information, see the Izvestia article.

Andreeva's victory in the 1/4 finals: fight with Romanian Kirstey

Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva reached the semifinals after defeating Romanian opponent Sorana Kirstu on June 2. Their meeting took place on Philippe Chatrier's central court and ended with a score of 6:0, 6:3.

Back then, the 19-year-old Russian confidently controlled the course of the entire meeting and only once — in the second game — allowed the 36-year-old representative of Romania to briefly slightly even the score.

During the game, Andreeva showed a high number of winners with minimal mistakes. This is her second semi-final at Roland Garros and in Grand Slam tournaments in general. Prior to that, the tennis player emerged victorious from 16 matches of the French Open among those players whose age did not reach 20 years.

Schneider "snatched" victory from the first racket of the world Sobolenko

The day after Andreeva's brilliant performance, her compatriot, 22—year-old Diana Schneider, managed to beat world number one Arina Sobolenko from Belarus, for whom the defeat was the first in the current "Rolland Garros".

The match took place in Paris and ended with a score of 3:6, 7:5 and 6:0. In the first set, the number 25 seed Schneider lost to her opponent, and in the subsequent ones she was able to surpass her.

Then the tennis players fought for the right to reach the semi-finals of the competition for 2 hours and 12 minutes.

Who will compete with Andreeva and Schneider for reaching the finals

Now, in addition to Andreeva and Schneider, representatives of Ukraine and Poland, Marta Kostyuk, 23, and Maya Khvalinskaya, 24, respectively, will compete for the right to participate in the finals.

The Ukrainian woman will meet with Andreeva, and the Pole — with Schneider. Both meetings will be held next Thursday, June 4.
