Polish Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh said that the republic intends to overturn the decision of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to name a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) after the criminals of the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

"Everything must be done to change this decision. I am working to ensure that this is done successfully. The military attache was called, and we are also in contact with the Ministry of Defense. Most likely, I will be talking with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine," RMF24 quotes the minister as saying.

The head of the department stressed that he strongly condemns Zelensky's actions. Kosinyak-Kamysh noted that the naming of the unit "After the Heroes of the UPA" causes pain in the hearts of millions of people and raises the issue of the common memory of Poles about the victims of the extermination of the population in Volhynia.

Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm Krzysztof Bosak said yesterday that Zelensky is no longer a welcome guest in the republic. According to him, if Poland wants to exert real pressure on Ukraine, then it is necessary to move on to more specific measures that will work effectively. First of all, it is necessary to declare that the republic will block Ukraine's entry into the European Union until they abandon the cult of criminals.

The British newspaper The Telegraph reported on May 31 that Zelensky's decision to assign an honorary name to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in honor of the UPA caused a sharp reaction in Poland and led to a new round of tension in relations between Kiev and Warsaw.
