The former NATO Secretary General pointed to the difficulties of managing tensions between the EU and the United States.

Maintaining the unity of Europe and the United States within the framework of NATO has become more difficult due to the increased tension between them. This was stated on June 3 by former Secretary General of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with Bloomberg.

"I think it would be correct to say that it has become more difficult now, in the sense that there is tension between Europe and North America. The United States is stronger and it has become more difficult to deal with it," he said.

Stoltenberg noted that in this case, compromise is the best solution, but everything must have limits. He stressed that the task is to preserve the unity of Europe and the United States. The former Secretary General said that the threats of the United States towards Greenland, Denmark and other countries are unacceptable.

The Politico newspaper reported on May 2 that the recent decisions of the American leader confirmed his desire to "punish" Europe, rather than make compromises that seem less and less possible. It was noted that Trump's recent behavior has made the Europeans understand the need to gain independence from the United States, but they recognize that the process of reducing dependence on Washington is too slow.
