The head of AVTOVAZ spoke about the competition with Chinese brands
The average price of a new car in Russia is about 3.5 million rubles, while in the Lada model range new cars cost a maximum of 2.2 million rubles. More affordable prices are one of the main competitive advantages of offering Chinese brands. On June 3, the head of AVTOVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, told this in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"We work in a niche as just the most affordable cars in terms of price. And we continue, this is our strategy, I would even say, a historic mission. We continue to work mainly in this segment, and our model range is the most competitive and affordable among all other cars, including Chinese brands, in terms of price," Sokolov said.
AvtoVAZ is building on this competitive advantage by launching new models and forming a pricing policy for a new model range, the top manager explained.
The head of AvtoVAZ also drew attention to the fact that Lada now occupies a quarter of the new car market in Russia, but the company "feels the breath of competition."
Earlier in the day, Sokolov shared that the Lada Niva SUV will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027. The production of the model will continue for a long time, and there are no plans to remove it from the assembly line.
