Kalinin stated the need for reforms in business education

Many startups in Russia stop working within a few years after launch due to the insufficient level of training of entrepreneurs. Alexander Kalinin, President of Opora Russia, told Izvestia on June 3 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Business needs to be conducted professionally now. <...> According to our measurements, the average life span of startups in Russia is three to four years. People come and start their business unprofessionally. Entrepreneurial education was formed 30 years ago, in the early 90s. Many of the programs that train future businessmen are outdated," he said.

Kalinin noted that the average life expectancy of startups in Russia is only three to four years, which is largely due to the lack of relevance of educational approaches. According to him, many academic programs in economics, management and entrepreneurship require serious updating.

He said that representatives of universities, together with Opora Russia, have already developed new educational standards and sent them to the Ministry of Education and Science for consideration. Kalinin expressed the opinion that it is important to approve the changes in the near future, so that next year students can study under the updated programs.

The head of the organization emphasized that a modern entrepreneur should receive a broader and practice-oriented set of knowledge even at the training stage. According to him, the renewal of the training system is directly related to the development of the economy: better education will allow businesses to adapt faster to changes and make better use of the opportunities of new technologies and the "fourth industrial revolution."
