The film "Pinocchio" will be shown at the Russian Film Festival in Serbia
The Russian film Pinocchio, an adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name, will be presented at the Russian Film Festival in Serbia, which will be held from June 9 to 30 as part of the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture in Serbia.
The participating cities of the event will be Belgrade, Nis, Subotica, Pirot, Aleksandrovac, Varvarin, Krusevac, Aleksinac, Sokobanja and Jagodina. The event is organized by the state-owned ROSKINO company with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
"The Russian Film Festival in Serbia is an important step towards strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples through the art of cinema. We are pleased to once again present to Serbian viewers the wealth of genres of Russian cinema — stories that reflect our values and traditions. The extensive geography of screenings in Serbia confirms the genuine interest of the Serbian audience in Russian films, and the event's rich program makes it possible to say with confidence that this Festival will become a bright event in the cultural life of the country," commented Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.
In 2025, Russia and Serbia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of cinematography. The first film under this agreement was the joint project Alpine Ballad, starring Milos Bikovic, Ivan Yankovsky and other Russian and Serbian stars.
"Serbia and Russia have a special relationship, shared historical memory and close cultural ties. We are glad that it is within the framework of the Russian film festival with the support of ROSKINO that the Serbian audience will get acquainted with the film "Pinocchio", a modern interpretation of one of the most beloved stories of several generations of viewers. I am sure that the painting will be received with sincere interest and will become part of a lively cultural dialogue between our countries. And next year we hope to see the first Russian-Serbian co—production in recent history, the film Alpine Ballad, which takes the development of cultural ties between our countries to a new level," said Svetlana Balanova, General Director of the National Media Group (NMG).
"Pinocchio" will be shown in Serbia from June 10 to 18 — director Igor Voloshin will come to present the film. The main roles in the musical tale were played by Vitaly Kornienko, Alexander Yatsenko, Alexander Petrov, Fedor Bondarchuk, Mark Edelstein, Victoria Isakova and other Russian stars.
"Serbian audiences have traditionally warmly welcomed Russian cinema, and we are pleased that Pinocchio will become part of the program of the Russian Film Festival in Serbia. For us, participation in such international projects is an opportunity not only to introduce foreign viewers to modern Russian films, but also to strengthen cultural ties between our countries through cinema, which unites different generations," said Anastasia Korchagina, CEO of the Art Pictures Distribution film company.
According to Voloshin, after the presentation of the film at the Marché du Film film market in Cannes, the project had additional opportunities for international distribution.
"In recent months, I have been receiving feedback from a wide variety of viewers, colleagues and international filmmakers, and many say that our Pinocchio is on a par with such masterpieces as Matteo Garrone's Pinocchio and Guillermo del Toro's animated puppet film. I often hear that our film is absolutely competitive, yet it is unlike anything else and evokes the strongest emotions among viewers of all ages, especially adults. After the recent presentation of the Marche du Film at the Cannes film market, the prospects for international distribution of our film have only expanded. As a director, I am incredibly happy about this," he stressed.
The director added that the audience should be able to watch different films. The creators of Pinocchio prioritized viewers who appreciate diversity, he noted.
"I believe that the audience should have the opportunity to see a wide variety of films, because we work for an audience that appreciates genre diversity. Pinocchio responds to this request. This is not just a fairy tale, but a story about important spiritual and moral values: about love, devotion, justice, purity of human relationships, and the victory of good over evil. At the same time, our picture is a real visual attraction: in the cinema, no one has ever shot a wooden doll, a puppet that came to life in the human world. And I think it will be interesting for viewers both in Russia and abroad," Voloshin concluded.
The film was produced by the Hydrogen Film Company and Art Pictures Studio, the National Media Group, Channel One, Plus Studio, Art Pictures Distribution with the support of the Cinema Foundation. The distributor of the cinema rights of the film in Russia is NMG Film Distribution. The exclusive distributor of digital, television and foreign rights is Art Pictures Distribution.
Art Pictures Distribution, which is part of NMG, presented new projects to foreign partners at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. Among them is the movie story "Pinocchio" about a cheerful and naughty boy. The painting, which uses modern technology to convey its view of fairy-tale characters, fascinates both children and adults. The famous song about Pinocchio is now being sung in English. In addition to the screenings, representatives of Art Pictures Distribution in Cannes have signed important contracts.
On May 29, Medialogia presented the top 30 Russian series ratings for April 2026. The series "Molodezhka" became the leader (2057 points). For the first time since January, the rating was topped by a Russian project. The top five also included the TV series "Boys" (The Boys, 2013 points), "Magic Battle" (1839 points), "Daddy's Daughters" (1788 points) and "Univer" (1682 points).
