The team of the detective film "Black Silk" has started filming in China
The film crew of the detective blockbuster "Black Silk" began work in China to recreate the atmosphere of Shanghai in the 1930s. This was announced on June 3 by the creators of the picture.
The film is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2027. According to the plot of the film, a mysterious cargo is delivered to Shanghai, which is being hunted by agents of the special services of different countries. The main filming location was the Chinese film studio Hengdian World Studios, where the scenes for the detective story "Red Silk" were previously shot.
"Recreating the atmosphere of pre-war Shanghai in the 1930s is one of our key tasks. A large international team of production designers, costume designers, and historical consultants is working on the visual appearance of the film. We studied a huge number of archival photographs, chronicles, advertising posters of that time, old maps of Shanghai," said director Andrei Volgin.
The main roles in the project are played by Milos Bikovic, Maxim Matveev, Gleb Kalyuzhny and Zheng Hanyi. The cast also includes Aleksandar Radojicic, Maya Giter, Alexey Takharov, Sergey Annenkov, Polina Kutsenko, Ilya Antonenko and Japanese artists Hiroyuki Mori and Junsuke Kinoshita.
"Black Silk" will be even bigger, even more stylish, even more dynamic than "Red". I am glad that we have returned to China charged with new energy for a new flight! In this part, foreign intelligence services will clash again, and my character Garin will have a partner — the legendary agent Richard Sorge, played by the wonderful actor Maxim Matveev," Milos Bikovic said.
Matveev, in turn, emphasized the importance of the international experience and professionalism of the Chinese side, noting the scale of the scenery and the local flavor.
The film is produced by the Nota Bene Film Group film company and the Commercial Fund for the Development of Cinema and Animation, the distributor is NMG Kinoprokat, the exclusive distributor of digital and television rights, as well as the foreign distributor of the film is Art Pictures Distribution. The film is being shot with the support of the Cinema Foundation of the Russian Federation, Rostec State Corporation and its member holdings Shvabe and KRET.
Volgin told Izvestia on March 19 that the film crew had begun work on the sequel to the Russian-Chinese film Red Silk. It was noted that filming takes place both in Russia and in China. Complex technical solutions are used for some scenes, including large-scale decorations and special pavilions.
