Russian women talked about the influence of books on the attractiveness of men

A love of books can be an added advantage in finding a relationship. This is the conclusion reached by analysts of the online dating service Mamba, who studied the attitude of Russian women to men who read by the Day of the Russian Language. The survey results showed that for many women, the literary preferences of a potential partner significantly affect the first impression. Izvestia got acquainted with the research data on June 6.

It is specified that 59% of Russians pay attention to whether a man reads books. At the same time, 62% of respondents consider a reading partner to be a more interesting person, and another 17% admit that a love of reading becomes an additional plus if literary tastes coincide. Only 19% of women said that this factor does not matter to them.

Lack of interest in books can also affect a man's perception. For 38% of the survey participants, erudition and a broad outlook of a potential partner are important, and only 42% of the respondents are ready to give a chance to a man who does not read at all.

For most women, a man who reads is primarily associated with intelligence, 75% of respondents said. Another 60% associate their love of books with a rich inner world, and one in three considers such men to be more confident in themselves.

In addition, Russians are confident that readers are more likely to be able to maintain an interesting conversation and conduct meaningful correspondence — 66% of the study participants chose this option. More than 40% note the depth of thinking of men who read, and one in three believes that they understand the emotions of others better and are able to listen to the interlocutor.

Women named history (46%) and Russian classics (44%) as the most attractive literary interests. The list of popular preferences also includes scientific and technical literature (30%), detective stories (28%) and books on psychology (24%). However, not all reading hobbies are approved of. Almost half of Russians (47%) are alarmed by men's interest in literature about "successful success." Women also treat lovers of romance novels ambiguously: about 40% consider such a hobby strange, but one in four admitted that, on the contrary, it arouses interest.

The survey participants also negatively perceive men who use books as a tool to demonstrate their own superiority. So, 25% are distrustful of those who constantly quote works for the sake of teaching, and 19% do not like men who read solely to create the image of an intellectual. Another 42% are annoyed by the demonstrative pride of their lack of interest in books, and 39% disapprove of the habit of judging other people's literary tastes.

Research has shown that book flirting does not always work. If an acquaintance begins with a quote from a work, more than half of women perceive it as an attempt to appear smarter. Only 36% of the respondents called this method of communication cute and intriguing.

At the same time, a photo with a book causes much more sympathy. For 42% of women, such a picture becomes a positive signal, and another 9% believe that a book in the frame makes a man more intelligent in the eyes of a potential partner.

In February, Anastasia Cardiakos, a family psychologist and psychotherapist, told why single people are afraid of never meeting love and what to do about it. She noted that one of the main reasons for the belief "I won't meet anyone" is related to self-esteem. If a person feels unworthy, they automatically underestimate their chances of happiness.
