AvtoVAZ presented the improved Lada Niva Legend at SPIEF

AvtoVAZ presented the updated Lada Niva Legend SUV at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The model received a new engine, upgraded chassis and body, as well as new electronic systems, the company said in a statement received by Izvestia on June 3. Preparations for the production of new items are now being completed, prices will be announced later.

It is claimed to improve all the technical characteristics of the car: from economy to handling, dynamics and passive safety. In total, the car has more than 100 new and more than 60 upgraded parts and assemblies.

The updated Niva Legend is equipped with a 1.8-liter 8-valve engine, which is already equipped with the Niva Travel. The maximum torque has increased by 24 Nm, 80% of this value is available from 1000 rpm. The engine has become more economical — the specific fuel consumption has decreased by 3-30%, depending on the mode. The front suspension has been upgraded: The stabilizer bar is shifted forward, which improved handling and smoothness, the company noted.

For the first time, the Niva Legend uses double-sided galvanized steel body parts: front panel, hood, roof, tailgate and rear apron. Also, for the first time, the driver's frontal airbag was introduced, which required the modernization of the body's power structure. The steering wheel is unified with Lada Granta, the ignition switch is moved to the right side. Ventilated front brake discs are used, which are less prone to overheating.

Ergonomics have also been improved: the gearbox lever is now mounted through the backstage and closer to the driver, and the transfer case control has become single-lever. The dispenser received a third support that reduces vibrations. For acoustic comfort, solid-molded hood noise insulation is used. The SUV is equipped with a heating and air conditioning system with an interior filter.

In addition, with the update to the Niva Legend, there is an air intake trim on the hood, which improves ventilation. There are also original two-tone 16-inch wheels, a central lock and a single key for doors and ignition.

As reported on May 26, AvtoVAZ's SKM brand line will soon be replenished with the new M9 model. It is planned to be produced at production sites in Nizhny Novgorod and Tolyatti. The model will be presented in four versions: a seven- and eight-seater minivan, a nine-seater minibus and a van.
