Moscow libraries have become platforms for charity projects of the capital's NGOs

The capital's libraries are turning into multifunctional centers where charitable projects of non-profit organizations (NPOs) aimed at developing children's reading skills, supporting patients and helping animals take place. This was announced on June 3 by the portal of the Mayor of Moscow. mos.ru .

"Sometimes a severe diagnosis compresses people's world to a single ward and procedure schedule. The book gives them the opportunity to mentally go beyond these limits, feel the movement, and most importantly, support their faith in a healthy future. Sometimes it's just such simple things that give a person back their support and remind them that life goes on," said Miroslava Sergeenko, founder and president of the Oncologica Foundation.

The Dobro Together Charitable Foundation is implementing the Reading with Dogs project, where children read aloud to pets from shelters. Classes help young Muscovites develop reading and emotional perception skills, and animals sometimes find new homes. For example, the Mouse dog was adopted after participating in the project.

The Illustrated Books for Small Blind Children Foundation produces books with voluminous illustrations and large print for children with visual impairments. The publications help to develop tactile perception and remaining eyesight, and the device "Reading pencil" with voice accompaniment is included. Over the 32 years of its work, the foundation has published 162 books and donated more than 220,000 copies to Russian libraries.

The Eksmo Libraries in Hospitals charity project provides books to patients of cancer centers and other medical institutions. This year, 500 books were delivered to the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology and a number of cancer centers. The programs help to distract from the hospital routine, relieve anxiety and support the psychological state of patients.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported the proposal of Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the Head of state on Culture and Art, to establish Children's Book Day in the country on June 2. The holiday is proposed to be celebrated annually on March 26. The initiative is aimed at popularizing children's reading, supporting authors and developing interest in literature among children and adolescents.
