The nuclear-powered cruiser Arkhangelsk fired missiles in the Barents Sea
The Arkhangelsk nuclear-powered submarine missile cruiser fired missiles during an exercise in the Barents Sea. This was announced on June 3 by the press service of the Northern Fleet.
It is noted that as part of the planned combat training activities, the Arkhangelsk cruiser fired an Onyx cruise missile from an underwater position at a sea target that imitated a surface ship of a simulated enemy, the object was located at a distance of over 200 km.
According to objective control data, the missile head hit a naval target. The area where the events were held was closed in advance to civilian vessels and aviation flights, the overlap was provided by ships of the Kola Flotilla of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet.
The Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine belongs to the ships of the Yasen-M project 885M. These submarines were developed by the Malachite Design Bureau. They are equipped with shock and electronic weapons, which allows them to perform tasks in any area of the World Ocean.
The Arkhangelsk submarine was laid down in 2015, and launched at the end of November 2023. In December 2024, the nuclear-powered submarine was accepted into the Russian Navy.
On June 1, the press service of the Northern Fleet reported that the Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear missile cruiser, after repairs and modernization, had begun the final stage of testing. As noted in the department, the Polar minesweeper also joined the fleet during the winter training period.
