The US Navy used a missile to disable a tanker in the Persian Gulf
The United States Navy has blocked and disabled the Botswana-flagged oil tanker M/T Lexie, which was en route to an Iranian port. This was announced on June 2 by the press service of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM).
"CENTCOM imposed a blockade against the tanker M/T Lexie while en route in international waters to Kharq Island. <...> Eventually, an American aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the engine room, which prevented the vessel from reaching Iran," the publication says on the social network X.
According to CENTCOM, the tanker did not comply with the demands of the American troops during the day and continued to move towards Iran. In response, the United States disabled the ship, ensuring control over maritime traffic in the region.
On the same day, CENTCOM reported that since the beginning of the naval blockade, the US Navy has already detained 122 merchant ships associated with Iran. It was clarified that the vessels were redirected to ensure control over maritime traffic.
