- Putin and Lukashenko discussed preparations for the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation during which they discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and preparations for the upcoming Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia. This was reported by the BelTA news agency on June 2.
"During the conversation, the issue of organizing and holding the XIII Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia, which will be held in Minsk and the Minsk region, was touched upon," the agency said in a statement.
In addition, Lukashenko and Putin discussed the state of trade and economic relations between Belarus and Russia. The focus was on issues related to the introduction by the Russian side of a new system for regulating certain aspects of trade and market interaction (SPOT).
The sides also exchanged views on topical issues on the bilateral agenda and confirmed their interest in further developing allied cooperation.
On May 8, Putin clarified that Russian-Belarusian relations are even deeper and stronger than in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Moscow and Minsk, he added, always have something to talk about in current issues related to the economic and social spheres.
