- The United States refused to lift sanctions against Iran for opening the Strait of Hormuz
The United States will not lift sanctions against Iran only for the resumption of the Strait of Hormuz, since easing restrictions is possible only in exchange for eliminating the reasons for their introduction. This was announced on June 2 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"No, it wasn't discussed, there was no such proposal," he replied during a hearing in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, broadcast by the Reuters news agency on the YouTube channel.
Rubio stressed that any changes in the sanctions regime should be linked to Tehran's abandonment of its nuclear program. According to him, it was this activity that became the root cause of international pressure.
"Iran is under sanctions because of its nuclear activities. If they agree to abandon these things, there will be an easing of sanctions related to their obligations and their compliance," the US Secretary of State concluded.
On May 27, US President Donald Trump also said that the United States would not ease sanctions against Iran in exchange for the transfer of its enriched uranium to Tehran. The head of the White House added that Iran would abandon highly enriched uranium not for the sake of easing sanctions, but for the sake of "easing the burden."
