On June 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of state Policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of Russia. The main topics for discussion were the support of the Russian language, as well as its study. The main statements of the Russian leader are in the material of Izvestia.

About the Day of the Russian Language and Literature

The Russian President recalled the celebration of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation on September 8, emphasizing that this initiative starts in the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.

"It is equally important to launch this year the preparation for the publication of the book series "Library of Literary Masterpieces of the Peoples of Russia." Russians Russian translations of the best works of our national literatures will be included and will make them accessible to the widest range of readers," the President said, adding that the creation of this book series is one of the assignments for the support of the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

About learning the Russian language

Russian Russian as a State Language module will be developed in the near future, Putin noted, adding that the subject of the study will include the constitutional status of the Russian language and issues of the country's language policy.

"The task of improving the system of learning Russian language and literature in educational institutions is one of the priorities of the state language policy," he said.

The President also drew attention to improving the quality of primary school teachers' training, pointing out that the number of hours they are given to study Russian language and literature, and teaching methods should be increased.

"These subjects directly affect the formation of the general speech culture of future first teachers, their aesthetic ideas, which ultimately affects the upbringing and education of children, since the level of proficiency in Russian, literate speech, and the ability to read and understand text largely ensure high academic performance in all other subjects," Putin said.

According to the President, one of the solutions to this problem was the preparation of unified state textbooks on Russian language and literature for the secondary education system.

He also pointed out that many universities in the country do not have a separate faculty of Russian language and literature. Russian Russian philology, German and English are equally included in the same Faculty of Philology, which contradicts the idea of the Russian language as one of the key values of modern Russia.

"I know that last year an independent faculty of Russian language and literature was established at Vernadsky Crimean Federal University. And I hope that other federal universities will follow the example of Crimeans," the president said.

About the holidays

The President of Russia drew special attention to the summer school holidays, suggesting launching thematic shifts dedicated to the Russian language and Russian literature in children's health camps.

"In recent years, more and more children's health camps have organized thematic shifts: geographical, historical and cultural. I have no doubt that the shifts dedicated to the Russian language and Russian literature will also arouse considerable interest among children and adolescents, their parents, and teachers," the head of state said.
