The Finnish authorities decided to classify information about the incident on May 15, when Ukraine mistakenly launched attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) towards Finland. This was announced on June 2 by the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament, Johannes Koskinen.

"We have not been provided with a source of information about the drone threat. They explained to us that this data is classified, and their disclosure may threaten access to such information in the future," Helsingin Sanomat newspaper quoted him as saying.

Koskinen warned that in order to ensure national security, the authorities are obliged to share all information with the committee, otherwise the deputies will not be able to assess the potential risks of government decisions.

A day earlier, the publication, citing sources, indicated that the Ukrainian drones detected in Finnish airspace on May 15 were sent by Kiev by mistake. Then, in the Finnish city of Uusima, sirens suddenly sounded, signaling an unmanned danger, as a result of which almost 2 million residents of the city were forced to seek refuge.

Finnish broadcaster Yle reported on May 15 that the Ukrainian authorities do not warn NATO countries, including Estonia and Latvia, about the approach of drones to their borders. Because of this, the Baltic countries were forced to independently inform Finland about the approach of the UAV.
