By the end of 2025, Russia has seen a significant increase in all major motorcycle accident rates. The number of road accidents increased by 8.2% (to 9758 units), the number of dead — by 8.8% (969 people), and the injured — by 8.3% (10.5 thousand people). The growth of all major indicators continues for the third year in a row, according to a recent report by the Scientific Center for Road Safety (NCBDD), which was reviewed by Izvestia on June 2.

An increase in all three main accident rates was noted in 25 regions. An increase in the death toll was recorded in 44 regions. The most common type of motorcycle accident is a collision, accounting for almost two thirds of accidents (62.9%; 6135 cases) of the total number of incidents and more than half (53.4% or 517 people) of the total number of deaths. Next are rollover, hitting an animal, going off the road, hitting an obstacle and hitting a stationary vehicle.

"The largest number of accidents and injuries are registered from April to October due to the fact that this type of transport is most actively used at this time of the year. The monthly increase in the number of accidents begins in April and reaches maximum values in July and August, after which there is a gradual decrease," the report says.

It is noted that in 2025, there was a significant increase in accidents due to traffic violations by motorcycle drivers. The number of road accidents increased by 8.4% (5,496 cases), the number of dead and injured — by 7.8% and 8.4%, respectively (632 and 5,832 people). At the same time, motorcycle drivers were guilty in more than half of the cases (56.3%).

The most common traffic violation, which was the direct cause of the accident, is non-compliance with the speed limit. This is followed by a violation of the rules for the location of the vehicle on the roadway, incorrect choice of distance, entering the oncoming lane, and others.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in 2025, Russia saw a 4.1% decrease in the number of accidents involving drivers who were intoxicated or refused to undergo a medical examination, with almost 13.4 thousand such incidents occurring at the end of the year.
