In Russia, the number of accidents involving drunk drivers has decreased over the year

In 2025, Russia saw a 4.1% decrease in the number of accidents involving drivers who were intoxicated or refused to undergo a medical examination, and almost 13.4 thousand such accidents occurred at the end of the year. This is reported in the latest report of the Scientific Center for Road Safety (NCBDD), which was reviewed by Izvestia on June 2.

In such accidents, the death toll decreased by 5% (to 3,462 people), and the injured — by 4.4% (to 17.1 thousand people). Such incidents accounted for more than a tenth (10.4%) of the total number of road accidents in the country over the year, and the deaths accounted for almost a quarter (24.8%) of all.

Experts noted that drivers who were intoxicated or refused to undergo a medical examination were guilty of nine out of 10 accidents (92.6%) involving them.

An increase in the number of accidents involving drivers who were intoxicated or refused to be tested for sobriety was noted in 35 regions of the Russian Federation. An increase in the number of deaths in such accidents occurred in 37 regions, the most significant figures were recorded in Vladimir (+65.7%), Novgorod (+76.5%), Orel (+362.5%) and Tver (+55.6%) regions, as well as in Sevastopol (+66.7%) and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. — Ugra (+50%).

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the number of accidents involving personal mobility aids (IMS) decreased in Russia by a quarter by the end of 2025.
