Putin has made it easier for Ukrainians who arrived before 2028 to obtain citizenship.

Ukrainians who have arrived in Russia will not be able to provide a criminal record document when applying for Russian citizenship until January 1, 2028. The corresponding decree was signed on June 2 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Other applicants for Russian citizenship will have to provide a document confirming the absence of a criminal record or a document for which a sentence has already been passed.
