- The Foreign Ministry recalled the preservation of the Russian Federation's status as a reliable energy supplier for Asia
Russia has always been and remains a reliable supplier of energy resources to all countries of Southeast Asia. This was stated by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a video message on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Philippines.
"I would like to take this opportunity to confirm that Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier of energy and food to all countries in Southeast Asia," he said in a video posted on the agency's website.
Lavrov added that the peoples of Russia and the Philippines are mutually interested in developing economic ties, including in the fields of tourism, energy, information technology and agriculture.
Bloomberg reported on March 25 that the Philippines declared a state of emergency in the energy sector due to fuel shortages amid the conflict in the Middle East. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. noted that urgent measures must be taken to "ensure the stability of energy supply.
On April 14, the Philippine Energy Minister announced that the country intends to obtain from the US authorities an extension of the permit for the purchase of Russian oil. The Minister of Energy clarified that the republic seeks to expand cooperation with Russia in order to get more options on the market and ensure the diversification of energy supply.
