There have been 292 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 292 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 33 people were killed and 355 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on June 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 52 accidents involving pedestrians, four people were killed, and 48 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 18 children, five of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings and 13 outside their area of operation. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 18 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 34 outside their area of operation.
28 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which 40 road users, including three minors, required medical assistance. 12 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
In addition, over the past day, 50 accidents involving minors were registered on the roads of Russia, as a result of which two children were killed and 52 young road users were injured, including 17 passengers and five motor transport drivers.
So, in the Samara region, in the afternoon, on 1,080 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 28-year-old car driver drove into oncoming traffic while overtaking, where he collided with a foreign car moving towards him. As a result of the car accident, the driver of a passenger car and three passengers of a foreign car were killed, including two girls aged 9 and 10, who were in the back seat and wearing seat belts. The driver of the foreign car and the passenger of the car of the culprit of the accident were injured and were hospitalized.
The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that driving into the oncoming lane remains one of the most common causes of accidents with serious consequences. Even on sections of road where overtaking is allowed, the driver needs to objectively assess the road situation, the speed of oncoming traffic and the distance to it. Any mistake in performing this dangerous maneuver can lead to a head-on collision, which often leaves road users with no chance of avoiding serious injury or death, the department said.
"In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists to abandon risky driving habits, not to overrun rashly and strictly comply with the requirements of road markings and road signs. Maneuver safety should always be more important than the few minutes that the driver expects to save on the way," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The day before, the Russian Interior Ministry denied information about the alleged large-scale inspections of elderly drivers by traffic police officers starting on June 1.
