The Interior Ministry warned about fraudulent mailings for Russia Day

Scammers send messages about "state payments" in honor of Russia Day in messengers and by e-mail. This was announced on Tuesday, June 2, by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Among the most common schemes is sending out messages in messengers and by e—mail about fictitious "state payments" in honor of the holiday, which redirects to phishing resources that mimic the interface of the Gosuslugi portal or the non-existent "Unified Payment Center," RIA Novosti quoted the press service as saying.

As explained in the ministry, the increase in the activity of criminals in the pre-holiday period is due to the fact that Russians' critical assessment of incoming information is decreasing due to positive emotions. In addition, scammers take into account the demand of potential victims for tourism and recreation, as well as their massive online presence.

The Interior Ministry also stressed that fraudsters mostly disguise themselves as representatives of Rosfinmonitoring, the Ministry of Finance, the Interior Ministry, the FSB and the Investigative Committee. In addition, the attackers may pose as employees of the Gosuslugi portal, credit organizations, and social services.

Anton Nemkin, a State Duma deputy and coordinator of the Digital Russia project, said on the same day that fraudsters had become more active in Russia before the summer holidays, creating fake websites for airlines and tour operators, as well as offering fictitious rental housing at low prices. The MP explained that fake websites look almost indistinguishable from real ones: they use logos, photos, interface and reviews, creating the illusion of legitimacy. The purpose of the scammers is to obtain funds and bank card data.
