Nebenzia pointed to the connection between the drone crash in Romania and Zelensky's letter to Trump.

Russia considers it no coincidence that the incident with the drone in Romania coincided with the appeal of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to the head of the White House, Donald Trump, on the supply of missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This was stated on June 1 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia at a meeting of the UN Security Council (SC).

What happened

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed into an apartment building in the city of Galac in eastern Romania. The incident occurred the day after Zelensky appealed to Trump to supply missiles for the American Patriot air defense system. Nebenzia said that the Russian side does not consider such a coincidence accidental.

Moscow's statement

On May 29, the Russian Embassy reported that the incident with the drone crash in Romania was a provocation by the Kiev regime, which is trying to draw NATO into a conflict with Russia. The diplomatic mission stressed that the events in Galat cannot be interpreted as hostile actions of the Russian Federation, and all statements are manipulative propaganda. According to the Russian permanent representative, Bucharest did not provide Moscow with any reliable information about the incident. He noted that, in the opinion of the Russian side, Europe needs such an episode with UAVs to justify aggressive statements against Russia.

Nebenzia also said that Western supporters of Russophobia are creating new information reasons for rallying on an anti-Russian basis. According to the Russian permanent representative, this is being done, among other things, to continue military support for the Kiev regime.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking to reporters in Astana on May 29, said that an objective assessment of what happened can be given only after conducting an expert examination of the wreckage of the drone, as Russia once handed over the wreckage of alleged Ukrainian UAVs for examination in the United States.
