The Ministry of Justice will report on foreign candidates at the request of election commissions.

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation will conduct a check on the involvement of candidates for deputies of the State Duma of the next convocation for the status of a foreign agent. This follows from a document published on June 1 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and its territorial bodies <...> should provide [at the request of election commissions] the available information on whether a candidate is a foreign agent or a candidate affiliated with a foreign agent," the text of the document says.

In addition, the agency will conduct an audit, as well as provide information on the involvement of candidates in the activities of a public or religious association or other organization, in respect of which a court decision on liquidation or prohibition of activities has entered into force.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation would provide information on the criminal record of candidates for the State Duma elections. In addition, it was clarified that the categories of the crime should be indicated, as well as information on whether it is included in the list of extremist orientation.
