Kazakhstan denies EU plans to create refugee centers in the country

On June 1, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Zhetybayev, announced that the republic was not negotiating with the European Union (EU) on the creation of special centers on its territory for migrants who were denied asylum in EU countries in exchange for visa facilitation.

"As far as I know, there are no such negotiations," he said during a briefing.

Zhetybayev added that Kazakhstan continues to discuss with its European partners the issues of easing visa requirements and concluding a readmission agreement, which provides for the country's obligation to take back its citizens illegally staying in the territory of the European Union.

Brussels has threatened Belgrade with restrictions due to its migration policy towards Russia.

The head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, Natalia Naumenko, announced on May 29 that Kiev and Brussels are in dialogue on the issue of a "painless and gentle" return of Ukrainian refugees from the EU to their homeland. The head of the migration service also noted that Kiev is interested in creating "all conditions for citizens to return" to their homeland.

Naumenko said on May 25 that the number of deportations of Ukrainians from the EU has been gradually increasing since 2024. The grounds for expulsion from the European Union may be a violation of migration legislation, late registration of documents for residence in the EU, or the commission of offenses.
