Sofya Perikova, nutritionist at the Docmed clinic network, spoke on Monday, June 1, about the benefits of milk.

First of all, in a conversation with Health Mail, she dispelled the very popular myth that only children need milk, and adults should not drink it, the authors of which justify it by saying that the production of the enzyme responsible for the digestion of lactose decreases with age. According to the expert, this does not happen for everyone, and modern international and national recommendations from developed countries are unanimous that dairy and fermented milk products are an obligatory part of the diet of not only children, but also adults.

However, if you are allergic to cow's milk protein, you need to choose alternatives, and if you are intolerant, pay attention to fermented dairy products, since lactose in them has already been eaten by lactic acid bacteria and they are much better tolerated.

The nutritionist noted that dairy products are the main source of easily digestible calcium, which is necessary for the formation and maintenance of bone, teeth and nails. Milk is also rich in phosphorus, high-quality protein, vitamins A, D and group B.

Regular consumption of milk helps prevent osteoporosis, a disease in which bones become brittle and prone to fractures.

Perikova said that, according to Rospotrebnadzor, it is not recommended to drink fresh milk "directly from under the cow" without pretreatment, as this poses a health hazard. The use of such a product without boiling or pasteurization can lead to severe acute intestinal infections, food poisoning and other systemic diseases.

The specialist also dispelled the myth that store-bought milk is less healthy than village milk. She added that modern processing methods — pasteurization and ultra—pasteurization - make it possible to preserve almost all valuable substances in the product.

Perikova reminded that it is important to pay attention to the shelf life and integrity of the packaging — it should not be swollen, dented or damaged.

In turn, Ekaterina Kashukh, an expert doctor at the Hemotest laboratory, a gastroenterologist, told RT by what symptoms dairy intolerance can be suspected.

According to the doctor, many people with this ailment often attribute the discomfort to accidental indigestion or poor product quality. However, the symptoms are directly related to the consumption of dairy products, writes "Moscow 24".

Earlier, on May 27, Medical Xpress magazine reported that trans fats found in dairy products, butter and cheese do not increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases or type II diabetes.
