Almost 200 pheromone traps have been set up in the Pskov region.
194 pheromone and color traps were installed in the Pskov region. They are designed to ensure phytosanitary safety, the press service of the North-Western Interregional Rosselkhoznadzor Administration reported on Monday, June 1.
Employees of the department posted traps in three greenhouse complexes in Pskov, Dedovichi and Velikiye Luki municipalities. They are needed to prevent the penetration and spread of quarantine facilities, as well as minimize risks to plants.
In total, 569 traps for 17 types of quarantine pests are planned to be used in 2026, the Pskov News Feed writes. These are, in particular, the South American tomato moth, the brown-marbled bug, the potato moth and the oriental fruit moth.
Pheromone traps are special devices equipped with synthetic pheromone. The substance is similar to a natural pheromone, which is secreted by insects to attract partners. Each trap is designed for a specific pest, taking into account the characteristics of their behavior.
