512 road accidents occurred in Russia over the weekend.
Over the last weekend of spring (May 30 and 31), 512 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 70 people were killed and 648 injured, 60 of those killed were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 1 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 96 incidents involving pedestrians, ten people were killed, and 87 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 22 child pedestrians, 18 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 19 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 77 outside their area of operation.
Over the weekend, 23 bus accidents occurred in Russia, in which one person was killed, and 32 more road users, including two children, required medical attention. 12 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
In the Moscow region, on 93 km of the Moscow Small Ring federal highway A-107, a 21-year-old car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a minibus with nine passengers in the cabin. After the collision, the bus overturned on the roadway, and one of its passengers died. The culprit of the incident, as well as the driver and five other passengers of the bus were hospitalized with injuries.
98 accidents involving minors were registered, 106 young road users were injured, including 46 passengers and 16 motor transport drivers. Five children were killed, four of whom were passengers in passenger vehicles, and the fifth was driving a pit bike.
In the Perm Region, on 113 km of the federal highway R-243 Kostroma — Sharya — Kirov — Perm, a 49-year-old truck driver exceeded the set speed in the rain and skidded on a wet road, allowing him to enter the oncoming lane. There he collided with a passenger car driven by a 44-year-old female driver. The motorist herself and her three passengers died in the car accident, including two sons aged 10 and 13, who were being transported in the back seat with seat belts fastened. In addition, another minor passenger of the car was injured — the seven-year-old daughter of the deceased, who was in a child restraint in the back seat of the third row of seats fastened with a seat belt. The girl is hospitalized.
In Bashkiria, on 3 km of the Osorgino—Engalyshevo regional highway, a 20-year-old driver with less than one year of driving experience collided with a 15-year-old teenager riding a pit bike in front of him. The student who died in the accident was riding a cross-country motorcycle in a helmet, but due to his young age did not have a driver's license.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own during the long summer school holidays, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate right and driving skills. The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department emphasizes.
The traffic police draw the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for allowing children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category to drive vehicles.
"Minors at least 16 years old can drive mopeds and motorcycles on public roads after completing training and obtaining a driver's license. Cross—country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should be used only on specialized tracks and only for motorsport," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, Head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Pitbikes are not designed with headlights and turn signals, so they are almost invisible to drivers of other vehicles at night. On ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas, movement with their help is strictly prohibited, Hrantskevich stressed.
Earlier today, the Russian Interior Ministry denied information about the alleged large-scale inspections of elderly drivers by traffic police officers starting on June 1.
