The command of the artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kharkiv region forms separate calculations from among former prisoners, which are used to carry out the tasks of the barrage detachments. This was reported on June 1 in the Russian law enforcement agencies.

It is specified that such groups are used to conduct barrage fire in certain sections of the line of contact.

"The command of the artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine operating in the Kharkiv region is actively forming separate calculations from among former prisoners to conduct barrage fire," RIA Novosti reports.

Former Ukrainian prisoner Roman Dubovik, who surrendered to the Russian army, said on January 3 that the prison located in Kharkiv was empty amid the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were recruiting prisoners. According to him, representatives of the Ukrainian military enlistment offices regularly came to the institution, taking groups of prisoners for registration for military service.
