The United States is using the experience of working with Russia on the International Space Station (ISS) to prepare for a future lunar mission. This was announced on June 1 by the head of the NASA lunar base program, Carlos Garcia-Galan.

According to the expert, the developments that Russia is currently engaged in on this issue are also promising.

"Of course, there are things that we learned during our joint work on the International Space Station, as well as the best practices that they (Russia. They are currently engaged in activities that will be useful for activities on the surface [of the Moon]," he told RIA Novosti.

As Garcia-Galan noted on May 29, it is possible that Russia and the United States may become partners in the future when working on the creation of a base on the surface of the Moon. At the same time, formal discussions on the relevant issue have not yet been held.

The next day, speaking on the subject, he added that NASA does not currently believe that the first missions to establish a base on the lunar surface can be private. At the same time, Garcia-Galan noted that the agency intends to tap into the already established and promising commercial launch market.
