Trump appoints US Ambassador to Turkey as Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq

On May 31, US President Donald Trump announced the appointment of the American ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, as special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq amid increased cooperation between Washington and the authorities of the two countries.

"I am pleased to announce that the United States Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, who has done an outstanding job, will be appointed special presidential envoy to Syria and, accordingly, special presidential envoy to Iraq, as we develop our strategic cooperation with the governments of Syria and Iraq," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

According to the head of the White House, Barrack will retain the post of US ambassador to Turkey and will fulfill his new duties with the full support of the State Department. The US President praised the diplomat's work, stressing his continued willingness to serve the country.
