The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) will discuss the admission of the Russian and Belarusian national teams in September. This was announced on May 31 by the President of the federation Luc Tardif.

"They will come back at some point. Our family needs them, but we don't want to rush it. <...> We will have an important congress in September, we will discuss this," the Corriere del Ticino newspaper quoted him as saying.

Tardif noted that there are still some bureaucratic problems regarding the admission of Russian and Belarusian hockey players. He also said that the decision would be influenced by geopolitical events.

The admission of Russians to the competition will take place in a separate order for each team and a specific competition, the IIHF clarified on May 29. It is noted that the request has been sent to the Federation Council for additional analysis, taking into account security issues, operational activities and sports organization of tournaments.

Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), announced on May 28 that the IIHF had annulled the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian national teams from participating in international tournaments. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, noted that there is hope that the Russian national ice hockey team will return to the international arena in the near future.
