Three marriages were made overnight at the Mayakovskaya metro station
Employees of the capital's registry offices held three wedding ceremonies at the Mayakovskaya metro station on the night of May 31. Since 2021, 109 couples have married in this location, Maxim Liksutov, Moscow's Deputy mayor for Transport and Industry, said.
"This site remains one of the most recognizable and sought-after in Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin's New Addresses of Happiness project. She continues to attract future newlyweds with the atmosphere of the night subway and the unusual format of ceremonies," Liksutov said.
According to Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, the ceremonies have completed the spring wedding season at the station. "On May 31, three new families were created here in a special, almost fabulous atmosphere of the night subway. By the end of the year, the Mendelssohn march will be played seven more times under the arches of this unique station," said the deputy mayor.
Rakova noted that Moscow continues to develop the New Addresses of Happiness project, which makes it possible to register a marriage at the most unusual city venues. At the end of December, it became known that Sokolniki station on the Bolshoy Koltsevaya Line of the Moscow Metro would become a marriage registration site for the first time in 2026.
Wedding ceremonies at the Mayakovskaya metro station are held at night — from 02:00 to 04:00 Moscow time, so as not to interfere with passenger traffic. For a special atmosphere, the platform is decorated with festive decor, and modern trains accompany the ceremony on the tracks, the Department of Transport of the capital emphasized. After the marriage, the newlyweds can organize their first family photo shoot as part of Moscow 2024. To hold the ceremony at the station, you must personally submit an application at the Wedding Palace No. 1 and pay the state fee.
