On May 31, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the Israeli army to expand the operation against Hezbollah and strengthen control over the movement's territories.

"I have instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to expand maneuvers in Lebanon. <...> And now my instruction is to deepen and expand our control over the territories that were under the control of Hezbollah," he is quoted as saying on the website of the Prime Minister's administration.

According to him, the IDF crossed the Litani River, captured strategic areas and took control of the Beaufort Ridge. He also said that over the past month, the Israeli military has killed 700 Hezbollah soldiers, and 3,000 since the start of Operation Roaring Lion.

On the same day, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that the IDF had captured the medieval Beaufort fortress in southern Lebanon. Katz added that the IDF will continue to fight Hezbollah to protect northern Israel. He stressed that the symbolism of the capture of the Beaufort fortress is also given by the fact that 44 years ago it was captured as part of the Israeli military operation Peace in Galilee.

On May 30, the IDF press service reported that Israeli troops had destroyed the Hezbollah artillery command in southern Lebanon. According to the publication, a secondary explosion occurred after the impact, which allegedly indicates the presence of weapons inside the building. It is noted that the attack on the headquarters occurred due to the presence of Hezbollah members in the area.
