- The head of the NATO military Committee announced a shift in the structure of the alliance
NATO is not experiencing fragmentation, but a shift towards greater responsibility of the participating countries. This was announced on May 31 at the Shangri-La Dialogue Forum in Singapore by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, head of the alliance's military committee.
"What we are seeing inside the alliance is not fragmentation, but a shift. A long—needed and ultimately healthy shift," he said at the event, a recording of which was posted on the forum's YouTube channel.
Dragone explained that this shift consists of two elements: awareness of the increasing responsibility of each of the countries of the association, as well as a more equitable distribution of the countries' contributions to the common defense architecture of NATO.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on May 20 that EU countries are expressing irritation over the uncertainty over the withdrawal of American troops from the continent and plan to demand clarification of the situation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to the newspaper, Washington's current decisions on the withdrawal of some military personnel from Germany, as well as the suspension of sending military personnel to Poland, have provoked serious concern among European partners.
On May 22, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States intends to reconsider the presence of its troops in Europe, despite the negative reaction from Brussels. Rubio added that this decision is part of a consistent process of reviewing the global presence of US troops in the world.
