The Russian goalkeeper of the French Paris Saint-Germain, Matvey Safonov, became the first Russian to win the Champions League twice.

In the final of the 2025/26 season, Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal London in a penalty shootout with a score of 4:3 after a 1-1 draw. The match was held in Budapest, and Safonov played the entire meeting, reports Sport-Express.

For the 27-year-old goalkeeper, this title was the second in a row in the Paris club.

Before that, Russian football players had won the tournament only once. Safonov has been playing for the French club since the summer of 2024 and has won eight trophies during this time.
