An attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the engine room of power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhia NPP could disable the entire plant unit. This was announced on May 30 by station director Yuri Chernichuk.

"Any impact, any damage, respectively, can lead, by and large, to the complete failure of this whole unit, and, accordingly, probably to the loss of just the unit as such. Therefore, a very alarming, very serious blow was delivered by the enemy today," he said.

According to Chernichuk, the drone pierced through the wall of the engine room. At the same time, the station staff was not injured. There was also no damage to the equipment. Currently, an order has been given to conduct a detailed inspection and identify the effects of the impact.

In addition, Chernichuk explained that the main piece of equipment is located in the engine room, including a turbo generator, which, despite its size and massiveness, is a "capricious and delicate design."

Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom state Corporation, announced the attack of a Ukrainian drone on the nuclear power plant's engine room on the same day. According to him, the drone broke through the wall of the room and exploded. The press service of the NPP clarified that there were no casualties or critical damage during the attack of a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle on a nuclear power plant.

Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the nuclear power plant, clarified that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is aware of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack.
