- Russia has released the first doctors of the future under the Leaders in Healthcare program
The first graduates of the unique educational program "Leaders of the Future in Healthcare", which trains doctors to effectively manage modern medical technologies, are preparing to go to the regions of Russia. The program is implemented jointly by Skolkovo and the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University and was launched a year ago at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
During the first year of the project, 31 students of the sixth Faculty of Fundamental Medicine completed their studies, defended their term papers and are now sharing their experiences, said Alexey Poltoranin, a correspondent for Izvestia.
"The most important thing she gave was that the path of a doctor can be non—linear, and even, most likely, it will be non—linear to make your career interesting," said Daria Derevnina, a graduate of the educational program "Leaders of the Future in Healthcare."
Studies are for those who want to build a career in healthcare and innovate throughout the country. Sofia Ivanova, a graduate, decided to implement her ideas in Bashkortostan, where she will go to work in two years.
"It's not scary to leave for the region, it's very cool, because it's through the region that we can realize our leadership and managerial qualities that we were given here," she shared.
According to Maria Vorontsova, PhD, director of the Moscow State University Medical Research and Educational Institute and one of the authors of the program, the project helps young professionals to better understand the profession - many of them do not know about all the possibilities of medicine and sometimes leave it.
"According to our estimates, about half of all medical personnel leave the profession in the first five years. 50% is a monstrous figure. This is about 25 billion rubles in direct losses per year. We want to reduce this figure, we want to give young people the opportunity to enter the profession and not be disappointed in it in the first year," Vorontsova said.
And it was done. Igor Kitashev wanted to go into another industry after graduation. His family includes economists and financiers, but the program proved that the world of medicine is much broader than it seems.
"Gene therapy, CAR-T therapy, is emerging, and this therapy is very expensive. And our task is to ensure maximum access for our country's patients," he said.
Those who have passed a rigorous competitive selection process receive grants from the Skolkovo School of Management, fully covering the cost of tuition. The best teachers of the school work with students, and meetings are also held with heads of relevant departments and directors of large medical companies.
"A very important part of our training was the coaching track, when every month the guys discussed with professional coaches — this is a very strong part of Skolkovo's competence — their career path, who they can become, who they want to be," said Marina Veldanova, MD, Director of the Center for Healthcare Development at the Skolkovo School of Management..
Graduates realize their knowledge thanks to the successful tandem between Moscow State University and Skolkovo. The program will continue to work: students of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University and other universities are expected in the new stream, the competitive selection of the second wave will be completed in the near future.
"We are very lucky to have our partner, the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at Moscow State University. They turned out to be amazing partners, the people who hear us, with whom we can interact," said Alexander Kim, rector of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 28 that Moscow is now an example of the digitalization of medicine, since while a patient is traveling in an ambulance, doctors can issue his "dossier." According to him, while the patient is in the ambulance, previous referrals, treatment methods and their effectiveness are recorded. By the time you arrive at the hospital, all the necessary information is already available. He stressed that such technologies are fundamentally changing the approach to medical care.
