France and Germany have started consultations on the nuclear deterrence program, initiated by Paris. This was reported on May 30 by the newspaper Der Spiegel.

The first round of negotiations took place on May 27 in Paris. Among the participants was German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's adviser on Foreign policy and security, Gunther Zautter. The next meeting is scheduled for July 4, this time in Germany.

As early as September, the German military will be able to attend the French nuclear exercises — while in observer status, the newspaper writes. According to Der Spiegel, in the future, the Bundeswehr could provide support that is not directly related to nuclear weapons.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on May 20 that Russia would respond appropriately and proportionately if any state conducted nuclear tests. According to him, the current situation requires the readiness of the Russian national infrastructure in case the United States takes steps towards full-fledged nuclear tests.
