Qatar has allowed temporary fees for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz

Qatar opposes the introduction of permanent fees for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, however, it allows the possibility of a temporary fee if it is used to ensure the safety of navigation and restore normal traffic along the route. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 30.

"If we are talking about a temporary period and the funds will be used for mine clearance or similar purposes, then this is an issue that can be discussed," said Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

According to him, Doha and other Gulf states consider permanent fees unacceptable, as they will inevitably lead to higher costs for consumers.

In addition, Qatar intends to work out, together with its partners in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf, a unified strategy for cooperation with Iran in the trade and political spheres, Bloomberg writes.

On the same day, the head of the Iranian parliament's committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Ebrahim Azizi, said that ships from Russia and China would enjoy special conditions when passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The parliamentarian noted that the countries have always supported Iran and cooperated with the republic, including in the most difficult moments.

At the same time, on May 22, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the US administration opposes Iran's charging fees for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this is "illegal and unacceptable."
