The expert spoke about the impact of Kamchatka's volcanic ash on aviation
Ash emissions from Kamchatka volcanoes can pose a threat to international aviation when they spread directly over the peninsula, Professor Vladimir Smirnov, chief researcher at the Northeastern Integrated Research Institute of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said on May 30.
"When there are large emissions from volcanoes, planes do not fly over the territory of Kamchatka. And there are international air routes there, so international flights are also waiting in this situation. At the same time, the ashes spread over huge areas, and reach the Magadan region. We made pits here to study the soil, and in many places in the vicinity of Magadan we found Kamchatka ash," the source told RIA Novosti.
Smirnov noted that the eruptions in Kamchatka are not dangerous for airplanes over the Magadan region, as only a small amount of ash reaches the region. According to him, in spring it can be seen on snow and vegetation in the form of a grayish coating.
