Gymnast Zaikina won gold in the ribbon exercise at the European Championships

The representative of Russia, Yana Zaikina, won the ribbon exercises at the Junior European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. The competition was held on May 28 in Varna, Bulgaria.

Zaikina scored 26,000 points in the ribbon exercises. The second place was taken by Ukrainian Sofia Krajinska with 25.750 points. German Melissa Diet is in third place with 25,300 points.

For the gymnasts of the Russian Federation, the European Junior Championships became the first major international start under the country's flag after a five-year hiatus. The tournament in Varna will last until May 31.

As Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev noted in an interview with Izvestia, the admission of Russian gymnasts to international competitions with a flag and anthem restored the integrity of all gymnastic sports and the Russian national team. He noted that the unification of the Russian Gymnastics Federation and the intensification of international work were the prologue to this.

As Svetlana Khorkina, a two-time Olympic champion in uneven bars exercises, told Izvestia, the lifting of restrictions on Russian gymnasts and permission to use the Russian tricolor spur athletes to new victories.
