The Usoltsev family, who disappeared in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, could have been the victim of an accident related to a predator attack or careless handling of fire. This was announced on May 29 by Valentin Degterev, a researcher of the Dyatlov Pass tragedy.

The specialist examined the photos taken during the search activities in October last year. According to him, one of the shots in the crevice shows a man who was not noticed by the volunteers.

"There was a man lying in this crack, a human face is clearly visible. Plus a tree with bear tracks," Degterev said in an interview with aif.ru .

The researcher did not rule out that the travelers could have been attacked by a bear, which left at least one of the family members in the crevice. According to another version of Degterev, the Usoltsevs could have died trying to keep warm. He suggested that the family climbed into a crevice and built a fire there, after which they died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
